Those with backgrounds in sociology and the behavioral sciences will prove to be an asset on social media teams. Recruiting talent that understands the nuances of humanizing a business, making authentic connections and building relationships with prospects,customers and constituents will be crucial.




David, a good list with solid advice. Too often companies put together an impossible-to-fill wish list of qualifications and experience in what they are looking for in candidates. They don’t seem to realize that many of the skills that successful social media practitioners have can be found in areas and domains besides marketing. Successful sales people and technical pre-sales people often share many of the same traits of the best social media practitioners. Companies that are open to social media should also be open to new profiles of professionals filling those roles.
